Form Assembly – Anti-Bullying

We thought that we would try to make a movie for our form assembly. The theme was Anti-Bullying and we wanted to look at what bullying meant for the victim and those around. The idea was that we wanted people to realise that even if they are not the bully themselves that they still have a part in the story.

The movie was filmed on my mobile phone (Nokia N8) if anyone is interested!

Showcase

These pieces of work were produced by Kirsty Blower in Year 8. The style of painting shows a great deal of maturity because they use unnatural colours and a difficult technique. I have included a picture by a famous “Fauvist” artist called Henri Matisse in the galley so that you can see how similar her work is to it. To have created such paintings without this knowledge is quite impressive. If you want to know, there is also an element of “Surrealism” in the work where you think something is one thing and then can see something else in it.

Well done 🙂

Community Cohesion Day – Skelmersdale United

We had a group of learners all day to do this project. We wanted them to make an “Agitprop” poster that set out their own manifesto for community cohesion. Learners had to decide what community means in Skelmersdale, and who are part of this community. They then had to write a set of rules that they felt would allow everyone to live in harmony together. These were written on the poster behind the bold and striking images in the foreground.

St. Richard’s Primary Project

I really enjoy working in primary schools and especially this warm and welcoming one.

Last year I started this project with a small group of Able and Talented learners in which we tried to use ICT to develop some display work that celebrated life at the school.

We first started by looking at words that described the learners experiences and input them into a website called WORDLE.  This site rearanges the words into interesting combinations and the learners selected settings that they found interesting.

We also took a photograph of the school which was vectorised so that colours could be changed. The learners then spent time arranging the final image with the words and applying a colour scheme.

These are the results:

As an Engineering college we get help from a variety of different companies including a very famous one called Procter & Gamble. We wish to help them decorate a corridor in their local offices by creating a huge piece of art that reflects our local community.

The piece of art is going to be a photo mosaic made up of images that you have taken. You may take pictures of absolutely anything that reflects our community. This may include (but is not complete):

Friends
Family
Houses
Streets
Views
Places of work
Places that you play in
School

You may take pictures on any camera including your mobile phone.

Please email me by monday 11th November as many pictures as possible (I need about 1000 in total) at the following address:

mc@personalstudy.co.uk

The best set of pictures will win a substantial prize, yet to be confirmed.

Update:

We won £100 pounds!

This was the result (click to make it larger)

GCSE Summer Exhibition 2010

I thought that it would be nice to celebrate the achievements of this years GCSE Art students. This slideshow includes work from the Fine Art & Graphics courses. Both Mr Hopkins and I thoroughly enjoyed this year and it was thanks to the hard work and maturity of the learners. Happily many will be continuing to study Art at college and we wish them all the best with whatever path this leads them towards.
